Maram, Elusive Bluff qualify for Breeders' Cup

NEW YORK — Maram and Elusive Bluff won 2-year-old turf stakes by identical neck margins Wednesday at Belmont Park, securing spots in $1 million Breeders' Cup races.

The $159,300 Pilgrim and the $164,200 Miss Grillo for fillies were both Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" races. The victory in the Pilgrim insures Elusive Bluff a berth in the Juvenile Turf on Oct. 25. Maram is headed to the Juvenile Fillies on Oct 24.

The Pilgrim and the Miss Grillo, both at 11⁄16 miles, were originally scheduled for last Sunday but were postponed due to the wet weather in the New York area. The grass course, still moist, was listed as yielding.

In the Pilgrim, Elusive Bluff remained unbeaten in two starts. Michael Baze was aboard for trainer Eric Guillot as the colt was timed in 1:47.91.
