■ Tibetan Buddhist Community of Lexington will start a series of teachings based on Atisha's Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The series will run through the end of 2008, except for the last Saturday of each month, when visiting teacher Geshe Kalsang Samdup visits. ■ Beaumont Presbyterian Church, 1070 Lane Allen Rd., Lexington, will begin its 50th anniversary celebration. Worship will begin at 10 a.m. at James Lane Allen Elementary School, 1901 Appomattox Rd., with recognition of all charter members. The worship service will be followed by a procession to the church, where the 11 a.m. service will include components of the first service of the proposed congregation 50 years ago. After the service, there will be a picnic potluck lunch with the main dish provided by the church. Presbyterian Grass, Beaumont's bluegrass group, will provide afternoon entertainment. ■ Nathaniel United Methodist Church, 616 DeRoode Street in Lexington, will hold its Homecoming Sept. 28. Breakfast will be at 9:30 a.m.; worship service at 11 a.m., lunch at 1 p.m. and fellowship and singing at 3 p.m.

■ Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church, 3534 Tates Creek Road, will present a benefit concert featuring tenor Whit Whitaker at 7 p.m. Sept. 27. Whitaker, a graduate of the University of Kentucky vocal music department and an actor and musician, has performed roles such as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, Fred Graham in Kiss Me Kate, and Bardolfo in the Verdi opera Falstaff. He performs internationally as a longtime member of the American Spiritual Ensemble and appeared most recently as Hud in the Summerfest production of Hair.

The theme of the concert, "Water Music," will include selections of Negro spirituals, opera, gospel and Broadway music. Whitaker will be accompanied by UK musicology professor and pianist Dr. Diana Hallman.

Admission is $20, cash or check only, on the night of the performance.

Proceeds will support the upcoming mission trip to Mexico by teams from Chapel Hill and Troy Presbyterian Church in Versailles, in partnership with the Living Waters for the World mission. Call (859) 272-2311.
