YMCA gets grant
The YMCA of Central Kentucky received a $2,000 grant from Target to support the Milk and Bookies program. In 2007, the YMCA helped hand out over 6,000 free books and has distributed more than 4,600 books already in 2008.
Apply and march
The Downtown Lexington Corp. is accepting applications for the 2008 Lexington Christmas Parade. All individuals, businesses, non-profit organizations, dance teams, bands, groups and clubs can participate. The entry fees are as follows:
■ Free: Bands and veterans groups
■ $25: Non-profit organizations (must provide status as a 501c(3) organization)
■ $50: Standard entry (non-commercial business or a non 513c(3) organization)
■ $175:Commercial/busi-ness entry
Fees include optional float built by entrant, up to 50 participants, and 10 vehicles. Bands and veterans groups are excluded from fees and size restrictions. Entry deadline is Nov. 14.
The DLC is also accepting grand marshal nominations from the public through Nov. 1.

Donations accepted
Good Foods Market & Cafe is accepting donations through September, as part of the Give Where You Live partner program, in support of Kentucky Heartwood, an organization dedicated to confronting commercial exploitation in Kentucky. Good Foods matches 25 percent of donations made by shoppers and presents it to the organization.
In August, Good Foods partnered with The Bluegrass Rain Garden Alliance, which received $156 in donations. Good Foods also donated $25 gift cards to University of Kentucky Libraries and Graduate Student Resource Fair, among others.
