    Scholarships/Grants ■ The Fayette Education Foundation recently received a $21,000 grant from the Jacob G. Schmidlapp Trusts. The grant will go toward the Fayette Education Foundation's 2020 Vision Grants.

    Air Force Airman Benjamin C. Ford has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Ford is the son of David Ford of Jacksonville, Ala., and Tammy Lee-Denison of Nicholasville.

    In October 2005, Gip Gibson took a trip to Haiti with members of the Frankfort-based Haitian Needy Children's Foundation.
  • Education notes

    Education Notes in the Aug. 20 edition of Communities named 20 students who received scholarships from the Horse Farm Workers Assistance Fund. The names of 12 students and the schools they will attend were omitted from the list.
  • Fayette County

    The YMCA of Central Kentucky received a $2,000 grant from Target to support the Milk and Bookies program. In 2007, the YMCA helped hand out over 6,000 free books and has distributed more than 4,600 books already in 2008.

    The Frankfort Climate Action Network partnered with the city of Frankfort Sept. 6 for the second annual Going Green: Frankfort Climate Action Festival held on the lawn of the Old Capitol.
